Veteran’s Recall

First, some background information. On 11 September 2012, an Islamic militia attacked the American diplomatic mission located in Benghazi, Libya, resulting in the deaths of four Americans, including the American Ambassador. Then, on 8 May 2014, the House of Representatives adopted H. Res. 567, Providing for the Establishment of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi, Libya. The Select Committee is authorized and directed to conduct a full and complete investigation and issue a final report of its findings to the House (and by extension, The People).
Now, on 23 October 2015, the
Select Committee hears from the former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. The
media is in “full gear” due to the ongoing Presidential campaigns, and finally,
the most hyped witness is about to speak. As the opening statements started, I
began to wonder what to expect from the spectacle being laid out before the
United States and the world.
So I listened and waited. After 30
minutes, I found myself waiting for something to listen to.
Going Forward
I do like the idea of the Select
Committee. I can appreciate that it’s objective is for “doing good” by
investigating what happened in Benghazi, Libya on 11 September 2012. However,
given Gowdy’s “justice” nature, Cummings’ frustration of not being sufficiently
heard, the Presidential candidate’s prose of “nothing new to offer,” and the openly
combative and partisan nature of the House, I finally did the only reasonable thing
that any American could do. I turned it off.
As a piece of political theater,
the show was nothing short of outstanding. Otherwise, it’s just absurd.
