Stand-Up
Veterans are Ideal Civic
Leaders

Civic leadership is hard, right?
Civic leadership requires running for office, right? Wrong. While civic
leadership can be very difficult, and a title can be very useful, civic
leadership is not so tough, or out of reach, that America’s veterans can’t get in
the fight!
What is required for sound civic
leadership? Do I have what it takes to be a civic leader? Excellent questions!
They are the right questions. I say the answer to both questions is YES. I
propose that, as veterans, each of us already has what is required and knows
what it takes.
Can you diagnose a situation? Yes. Every veteran can
honorably apply standards.
Do you have the courage to act? Yes. Veterans didn’t just stand
there.
Can you K.I.S.S. it? Yes. Veterans know that stupid simple
is simply smart.
Can you handle pressure? Yes. Basic training helped you figure
that out.
Can you inspire others? Yes. Starting at the bottom taught
us to work our way up.
Can you speak with authority? Yes. We are veterans. Been
there, done that.
Veterans are ideal civic leaders. We
stand apart and above because we already have what it takes. We don’t need a
fancy office or title because we are already in position to make a difference
day-to-day. My challenge to my fellow veterans is this: Get started right where you are!
